Kitchen splashbacks with the look of stone

Glass splashbacks are a gorgeous addition to any kitchen, but some may be put off because they feel the splashback would look far too modern and they are after a more natural, or even rustic look and feel.

Stone can be great for any part of the house and are particularly attractive in the kitchen setting. Because stone is a natural product, the pattern can be as individual as a fingerprint. Marble, granite, sandstone have their own patterns and properties that have interested us since the beginning of time, but are they really suitable for a busy, modern kitchen environment?

Natural stone in the kitchen

Natural stone is known for being beautiful and pretty durable and best of all, it's a natural product. But, of course, like any other material, it has its good points and bad points.

Natural stone is durable and long-lasting

Natural stone is clearly a very hard material, making it a very durable, long-lasting choice for your kitchen. However, stone is porous and to help prevent it from staining and water damage, it needs to be regularly treated with a sealing agent. Glass splashbacks require no such sealing and they are not porous like actual stone. The good news is that you can enjoy all the beauty of the stone of your choice with the ease of care of a toughened glass splashback. We simply use high resolution images of the rock or stone of your choice to achieve the look you've been dreaming of.

Stone offers individuality

Remember that stone is a natural product straight from nature itself. It has taken millions of years to achieve the individual patterns and textures it sports today. As stated above, each stone is as unique as a fingerprint and this fact alone has been a source of fascination with us for thousands of years. Although natural stone is unique, you can replicate the aesthetic appeal of the stone in a printed glass splashback at a fraction of the cost.

Cleaning stone in the kitchen

When stone has been properly sealed, it is relatively easy to clean and keep looking good. A quick wipe over with a pH-balanced neutral cleaner or warm water will keep the stone looking great, but it will need sealing throughout its serviceable life. A glass splashback on the other hand will require no such effort. Glass is non porous and as long as you take the necessary steps to ensure the smooth surface remains scratch free, a quick wipe over is all that will ever be required. You will be able to enjoy a hygienically clean surface for many years to come and any images printed into the glass such as your favourite holiday scene or your choice of stone or rock will remain bright and vibrant too.

Natural stone is prone to chipping

Some natural stone varieties can chip easier than others. Slate for example is made up from layers that are very easy to chip and flake, and although they are relatively easy to fix when chipped, they can still leave sharp edges and a haven for bacteria to accumulate. Repairs for other types of stones can be very expensive and labour intensive, requiring specialist knowledge and expertise and this sort of service comes with quite a high price. Glass has no such layering and will remain robust throughout its life. Our glass splashbacks with high resolution images of natural stone, bricks or rock are manufactured from the very finest toughened glass, making the chances of damaging them remote to say the least.

Genuine stone is expensive

Because it's a natural material, natural stone for the kitchen can be some of the most expensive surfacing options available to you. There is no doubt that their luxurious look makes the expense seem worth it, but for a fraction of the cost you can achieve the same gorgeous looks with a printed stone toughened glass splashback.

A gorgeous rustic and natural look in stone

Our toughened glass splashbacks with stone designs are so realistic that it can be difficult to tell them apart from the real thing.

Older properties that would benefit from the more traditional and rustic look that stone offers would not look out of place with a printed toughened glass splashback with a stone design because they look so realistic. Best of all, you will have none of the drawbacks of stone and all of the beauty at a very competitive price.

Stone on a printed glass splashback

There really is a wealth of choice when it comes to having a stone image printed onto your new toughened glass kitchen or bathroom splashback.

From the uniformity of stone effect tiles to the random beauty of a stone mosaic image, the choices are virtually endless.

Many people believe that because natural stone is cold to the touch, it should follow that an image of stone would make you feel cold, or give the room a cold feel and look. Surprisingly, the stone image doesn't make the room look or feel colder, particularly when you opt for the 'hotter' colours of stone such as the reds and yellows. Buff stone tones give the room a lovely, rustic warmth, making you feel even more at home.

Like most things, there are pros and cons, but with a beautiful looking toughened glass splashback with a natural stone or rock design, you'd be hard pressed to find any reasons not to invest in one for your kitchen.

So if you would like the natural beauty of stone in your kitchen, without the hassle of regular sealing, potential for chipping and the cost of repair this entails, why not ask to see some samples of our splashbacks. The stone, brick and rock designs are really second to none and you'll get to enjoy a hygienically clean, functional and gorgeous toughened glass splashback for many years to come.
