Glass for the ultimate in hygiene

In todays climate of Coronavirus and an array of other biological nasties that appear to be doing the rounds with greater frquency than ever before, more and more people are discovering just how hygienic glass is and how super easy it is to keep sparkling clean.

Although there are many cleaning fluids available on the market to clean glass, many rely on something as cheap and simple as white vinegar. A quick wipe over with a fifty percent water, fifty percent vinegar solution is enough to keep your glass balusters, mirrors, shelves and splashbacks looking pristine.

Some information about March

March is a Fenland market town and civil parish in the Isle of Ely area of Cambridgeshire, England. March was the county town of the Isle of Ely, a separate administrative county between 1889 and 1965, and is now the administrative centre of Fenland District Council.

The town was an important railway centre, with a major junction station on the Great Eastern and Great Northern railways, 88 miles from London by rail, 29 miles north of Cambridge, 14 miles north west of Ely and 9 miles south of Wisbech.

Like many Fenland towns, March was once an island surrounded by marshes. It occupied the second largest "island" in the Great Level. As the land drained, the town grew and prospered as a trading and religious centre. It was also a minor port and, in more recent times, a market town and an administrative and railway centre. The town is situated on the banks of the old course of the River Nene, which is navigable, and today mainly used by pleasure boats.

Some March history

March was recorded as Merche in the Domesday Book of 1086, perhaps from the Old English mearc, which meant boundary. Modern March lies on the course of the Fen Causeway, a Roman road, and there is evidence of Roman settlements in the area. Before the draining of the fens, March was effectively an island in the marshy fens. The town probably owes its origin to the ford on the old course of the River Nene, where the road between Ely and Wisbech, the two chief towns of the Isle of Ely, crossed the river. At one time shipping on the River Nene provided the basis of the towns trade, but this declined with the coming of the railways in the 19th century.

A single arch bridge was built over the River Nene towards the north end of the town in 1850. High Street, which is the main thoroughfare, is continued over the bridge to Broad Street on the north side of the Nene, and The Causeway is lined with a fine avenue of elm and other trees.

March caters for fossil fans!

Fossils Galore is an education centre aimed at fossil and crystal enthusiasts. The aim of the centre is to educate the young and old about life in the past, right back to the beginning of life. One of the first things you see as you enter the centre is the museum where they put on themed displays of fossils and crystals from around the world. The museaum have all the information about the display around it so visitors can learn about the displays. Questions are also answered as they always have a member of the team on hand to help answer them. On the second floor of the centre they have a preparation laboratory where visitors can see work being carried out on a range of bones from the Jurassic period to Ice Age animals.

A breath of fresh air

If the great outdoors is your thing, then March has a great nature reserve to offer visitors too. With a relaxing walk on a very well maintained path, you can let your four legged friend enjoy it too in safety. There are many different butterflies and dragonflies along the entire length of the path, plus lots of benches for a sit down along the way too. It ends with a drop down on either a slope or steps to a small pond with reeds and lily pads, where you can enjoy watching dragonflies, pond skaters and other aquatic life. So Rings End nature reserve is a lovely way to walk in the fens.
