The Splashbacks of Distinction show room is located at Watton at Stone in Hertfordshire with easy access from Hertford, Stevenage and surrounding towns. It is close to both the A1 and A10 which makes it easily accessible from North London.
We have a wide range of samples, styles, colours and textures for you to see and touch. Our clients have told us that being able to visit our showroom really helps them to visualise and develop their ideas so that they really end up with exactly what they wanted. It is often very difficult to see what a particular colour or finish will look like from a picture. We understand that and can supply samples of your chosen splash back to enable you to get the best possible idea of what your dream kitchen or bathroom will look like before it is fitted.
We already have hundreds of samples available to look at in our showroom including different types of finishes such as glitter or sparkle. We can supply a sample in any colour or finish you would like from our extensive range.
Our splash backs are often so vibrant that it is very difficult to really appreciate them from a simple image and with some finishes, such as the mirrored finishes, it is virtually impossible. With a sample you can get a much clearer idea of how your splash back will look in your kitchen and how it will compliment the other colours and textures around it.

Hatfield has such a rich and diverse history
In the early tenth century Hatfield belonged to a very powerful man called Ordmaer and his wife Ealde, who may have been the grandfather of King Edward the Martyr. Sometime between 932 and 956 he exchanged Hatfield for land in Devon with Eathelstan Half-King, who then gave it to his sons. King Edgar seized the land when he became king on 959, claiming that Ordmaer and Ealde had bequeathed it to him, but Aethelstan's sons recovered it after Edgar died. Hatfield is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as the property of the Abbey of Ely, and unusually the original census data that compilers of Domesday used survives. No other records remain until 1226, when Henry III granted the Bishops of Ely rights to an annual four-day fair and a weekly market. The town was then called Bishop's Hatfield. Today, there is a girl's school on Bishops Rise that still bears the name.
Elizabethan splendour is retained in Hatfield
Hatfield House is the historical seat of the Cecil family, namely the Marquises of Salisbury. Elizabeth Tudor was confined at Hatfield for three years in what is now known as The Old Palace in the sprawling Hatfield Park. Legend has it that she learnt here of her accession as queen in 1558 while sitting under an oak tree in the Park, following the death of her half sister Mary. She held her first Council in the Great Hall of the Old Palace of Hatfield. In 1851 the route of the Great North Road was altered to avoid cutting through the grounds of Hatfield House.
The noble residents of Hatfield House have a private crypt just outside the gates of Hatfield House in St Etheldreda's Church in what is known as Old Hatfield.
Hatfield itself grew up around the gates of Hatfield House. Old Hatfield retains many historic buildings, notably the Old Palace, although it is only the frontage that survives to this day, St Etheldreda's Church and the more recent Jacobean Hatfield House. The Old Palace was built by the Bishop of Ely, Cardinal Morton, in 1497, during the reign of Henry VII, and the only surviving wing is still used today for Elizabethan-style banquets.
St Etheldreda's Church was founded by the monks from Ely, and the first wooden church, built in 1285, was probably sited where the existing building stands overlooking the old town.
The church of St Etheldreda, well situated towards the top of the hill, contains an Early English round arch with dog-tooth moulding, but for the rest is Decorated and Perpendicular and largely restored. The chapel north of the chancel is known as the Salisbury chapel and was erected by Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury, who was buried here. It is in a combination of classic and Gothic styles. In a private portion of the churchyard is buried, among others of the family, Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury.
A secret tunnel in Hatfield
There is a story that there is a very long tunnel that connects the old rectory in Hatfield to St Etheldreda's church. This tunnel was allegedly built during the reformation so that persecuted clergy could evade King Henry VIII's enforcers, although the validity of this claim is disputed by many historians. When one considers the distance between the two buildings, it would have been an amazing piece of engineering at the time if it were to be true.
A long and celebrated aerospace industry in Hatfield
In 1930 the de Havilland airfield and aircraft factory was opened at Hatfield and by 1949 it had become the largest employer in the town, with almost 4,000 staff. It was taken over by Hawker Siddeley in 1960 and merged into British Aerospace in 1978. In the 1930s it produced a range of small biplanes. During the Second World War it produced the Mosquito fighter bomber and developed the Vampire, the second British production jet aircraft after the Gloster Meteor. After the war, facilities were expanded and it developed the Comet airliner, which was the world's first production jet liner, the Trident airliner, and an early bizjet, the DH125.
Sadly, British Aerospace closed the Hatfield site in 1993 having moved the BAe 146 production line to Woodford Aerodrome. The land was used as a film set for Steven Spielberg's movie Saving Private Ryan and most of the BBC/HBO television drama Band of Brothers. It was later developed for housing, higher education, commerce and retail.
The original executive offices of the Hatfield aerospace aviation division have now been converted into the sub-divisional headquarters of Hertfordshire Constabulary, in the form of Hatfield police station. Hatfield is one of only two Hertfordshire police stations that have a dedicated custody suite, the other being located at Stevenage. There is a small, yet educational aviation museum in a vault underneath Hatfield police station that can be booked for visits. There are also reports that Hatfield police station is haunted, with many police personnel reporting ghostly goings on at the building.
Hatfield pays homage to its aviation history with street names
Today, Hatfield's aviation history is remembered by the names of certain local streets and pubs. Comet Way, Mosquito Way, The Runway, The Airfield, and Dragon Road are just a few, with The Comet Hotel built in the 1930s. The Hilltop public house changed its name to the Harrier, but it was actually named after the Harrier bird, not the aircraft, hence the pub sign showing the bird. Another name change has occurred, and the pub is now called the Hatfield Tap. The de Havilland Aircraft Heritage Centre, at Salisbury Hall in nearby London Colney, preserves and displays many historic de Havilland aeroplanes and related archives.
The Hatfield Polytechnic: Now the University of Hertfordshire
The Hatfield Polytechnic became the University of Hertfordshire a number of years ago. As a direct result, Hatfield has become a student town with many properties being rented out to students from home or overseas.
Splashbacks of Distinction have been fitting glass splashbacks and worktop covers for many years now and we have started working for a number of landlords in the Hatfield area who rent their properties out to students. One landlord recently told us that he had replaced several worktops and tile splashbacks in his properties as the student tenants rarely cleaned them and they had become very grubby and stained. Since replacing these with glass splashbacks and worktops, he has had no further problems with cleaning up after his tenants move on after their graduation. It's not that students are dirtier than other people he said, but they just don't seem to have the time to clean as much as others do. After all, any spare time is spent studying or relaxing at the forum or the Elephant House bars. Although the days of famous bands like the police and Fleetwood Mac no longer perform at the Hatfield campus, these leisure facilities remain just as popular with the students.
