Kitchen splashbacks - colour fades

Colour fades or gradients as they are sometimes called can look absolutely amazing in any setting where a colour is required to gently merge with another to create a lovely effect.

Sometimes a solid colour is simply too much for the eye to cope with, particularly if it is too dark, too light, or even intended to cover a larger area. A colour fade or gradient is the perfect way to soften the effect and make the two or more colours compliment one another, creating a truly stunning look in any home.

Colour fades are usually a darker colour that gradually merges and changes into a lighter colour. However, some can be more than one colour. For example, a rainbow is not made up of different colours that have clearly defined separating lines between the different colours, they all seem to gradually merge into the next colour. The rainbow is natures own colour fade that we have been marvelling at for thousands of years.

A more technical explanation of a colour gradients would be in the world of computer graphics, where a colour gradient is sometimes called a colour ramp or colour progression, that specifies a range of position dependent colours, usually used to fill a region. For example, many window managers allow the screen background to be specified as a gradient. The colours produced by a gradient vary continuously with position, producing smooth and pleasant colour transitions.

A radial gradient is another type of colour fade that is specified as a circle that has one colour at the edge and another at the center. Colours are calculated by linear interpolation based on distance from the center. This can be used to approximate the diffuse reflection of light from a point source by a sphere.
