Stanford-le-Hope is a town and Church of England parish situated in the county of Essex. The town is within the unitary authority of Thurrock and located 23.8 miles east of Charing Cross in London. Its principal claim to fame is that Joseph Conrad lived and wrote there. The town is served by Stanford-le-Hope railway station.
Often known locally simply as Stanford, the town is home to many middle class commuters working in London, thanks to its proximity to the capital and its c2c-operated London, Tilbury and Southend Railway rail connections. One of the main local industries is the nearby oil refinery at Shell Haven, and it soon will be home to the proposed DP World deep sea port, major business and logistics park. Many residents also travel along the nearby A13 to work in the Lakeside Shopping Centre.
St Cleres Hall in Stanford Le Hope is a historic and medieval house in Stanford le Hope which is said to be haunted.
Poltergeist activity has resulted in a table and chair moving in the nursery and people have reported a ghostly figure in an upstairs window.
Poltergeist is a German term for a noisy ghost or spirit. It is a type of ghost or spirit that is responsible for physical disturbances, such as loud noises and objects being moved or destroyed. Most claims about or fictional descriptions of poltergeists show them as capable of pinching, biting, hitting, and tripping people. They are also depicted as capable of the movement or levitation of objects such as furniture and cutlery, or noises such as knocking on doors.
They have traditionally been described as troublesome spirits who haunt a particular person instead of a specific location. Some variation of poltergeist folklore is found in many different cultures. Early claims of spirits that supposedly harass and torment their victims date back to the 1st century, but references to poltergeists became more common in the early 17th century.
A woman has also been spotted in the main downstairs room with staff claiming they feel they are being watched.
Although there has been few visits, paranormal teams reported noting numerous energies and extreme changes in temperatures while in the building.
